Chester L. "Bud" Key

November 17, 1917 — April 6, 2011

Mid morning, 93 years ago, on November 17, 1917, Chester L. (Bud) Key was born at home (six miles north of Chandler) to E.A. and Shirley (Evans) Key. Went to his Heavenly Horne April 6th, 2011. He attended Union (HardScrabble) and Osage grade school before going to Agra High School for three years and then graduating from Tryon High School with the class of 1937. While at Agra he played basketball, baseball, and tennis. He attended Chillicothe Business School for a short time before returning back to his home to be a dairy and crop farmer. On November 30, 1941, he married his best friend and love of his life, Ruby Mullen. In December of 1942, their first child, Harold Allen, was born and then in March of 1950 along came their second child, Linda. In 2001, after 60 years of marriage Ruby went ahead, to wait for him, in Heaven. Chester was a simple man, very set in his ways, which enjoyed a quiet country life on his farm, south of Agra. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He operated an active dairy, with his son, until 1968 when he sold out and became a beef cow-calf operation. But his number one enjoyment was raising, showing, and selling Quarter Horses. He was an active board member on Oklahoma Milk Producers Inc. holding different offices. He was an active board member on the Lincoln County Fair Board and was a big booster of the County and State Fat Stock Shows. Bud was, also, Vice President and member, for many years, of the Agra Public School Board. He loved supporting the kids, faculty, and community at every opportunity: loved his neighbors and friends. He especially appreciated them over the last few years when he was unable to be out in the community. He was so thankful for all the kindness and care he received from his immediate family, neighbors (especially from K.D. Hoisington, Bruce Newby, and David Ratcliff), and his church family. He attended Union Friends and Columbia Friends Churchs during a good deal of his life. When Columbia's congregation diminished and they had to close their doors in 1964, Bud and Ruby moved their memberships to the Chandler Friends Church. He served on different boards and offices, helping where he could. Chester was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son. He is survived by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, David and Linda McEntire, three Grandchildren - Chris (wife Katharina) Key of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Brad McEntire of Dallas, TX, Trina (McEntire) Hamner, Carrollton, TX and two great granddaughters and one great grandson, Kylie Hamner of Carrollton, Maximilian and Pauline Key of the Netherlands, one sister- Louise (Key) Ellison and her children -Sally & Robert Boggs, Elton and Tammy Ellison, and Richard Ellison, three brother-in-Iaws, Glen & Eunice Mullen of Bethany, Proctor Mullen of Beggs, Charles & Mable Mullen, of Wichita, KS and two sister-in-Iaws - Anna Lois (Mullen) George of Chandler and husband Robert, Joy (Mullen) Wilson and husband Jim of Wichita, Kansas. And a host of extended family and friends. Bud's parting has left a void - but we can fill it with remembered joys and knowing he is at rest in our Heavenly Father's mansion now. Under the direction of Parks Funeral Home, services will be held at the Chandler Friends Church on Saturday - April 9, 2011 with Pastor's Bruce Newby and Chris Stanfield officiating.
