Charles Wayne Ramer

Charles Wayne Ramer was born January 29, 1937 near Roff, OK to Cyrus and Laverne Ramer. He passed from this life on June 13, 2015. Charles was raised in Nicoma Park, OK and graduated from Choctaw High School in 1955. He then earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Central State College and a Master’s Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State. He married Carol Valene Wells on August 27, 1961 and they were married until her passing in 1997. They had two children, Jay Patrick and Shelly Lynn. Following Carol’s death, he married Glenda Smith of Hydro on August 1, 1997. Coach Ramer was hired by Harrah Public Schools in 1962 to teach Math and Algebra, lead the Jr. High football program, coach Jr. High boys and girls basketball as well as track and field. He remained at Harrah, teaching and coaching for his entire career, until his retirement in 1991. He was much loved and admired by his students and the many players he coached and he was always happy to reminisce about them. Charles loved working his garden on his farm in Harrah, following Sooner football, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, “Dede.” He is survived by his wife, Glenda; his children, Jay Ramer & wife Ann; Shelly Ramer & husband, Tim Mattox all of Harrah; stepchildren Tracey & Sam Pappas, Casey Smith, Stacy & Rachel Smith; grandchildren Bailey, Davis & Drew Ramer, Seth & Jenna Mattox, Bryce & Shaylan Pappas, Payton & Sage Smith, Riley Smith, Kamber & Greg Burnett; great grandchildren, Harper & Harrison Burnett, his sister, Mary Rust, and his brother, Robert Ramer. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, June 15, 2015, at Smith-Parks Funeral Service, 2039 N. Tim Holt, Dr., Harrah, OK. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 16 2015, at the First Baptist Church, Harrah, OK. Interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, OK.
