Charles James Wooden

Charles James Wooden (Pa), 85, was born March 8, 1929, to Robert V. Wooden and Anna E. Miller Wooden, near Sparks, OK. He died of pneumonia in Stillwater, OK on Monday, November 10, 2014. He attended Davenport schools and was a talented athlete at Davenport High School. Charlie married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou Gibson in 1948. They soon moved to Oklahoma City, where they started a trucking company and raised three daughters. Charlie was very involved in the Oklahoma horse racing industry, working as Executive Director of the Okla. Horseman’s Assoc. until retirement. He was a life-long OSU Cowboy fan, and immensely enjoyed following OSU sports and Thunder basketball. Charlie is survived by three daughters, Barbara Howry, Stillwater; Marsha Wooden, San Francisco; Lou Ann Jones and her husband Jim, Stillwater; five grandchildren, Ande Howry, Edmond; Chris Jones and his wife Emily, Altus; Laurie Fanning and her husband Russell, Stillwater; Tyler Jones, Oklahoma City; and Shawn Sissons and his wife Nicole, Choctaw; two great grandchildren, Abigail and Jozie Jones, Altus; two sisters, two brothers and many other relatives and friends. Services will be Friday, November 14, 2014, with a burial at 1:30 pm at New Zion Cemetery, Davenport, OK and a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at 2:30 pm at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie’s name to the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
