Charles “Chuck” William Lackey was born on November 20, 1946, in Shawnee, and departed this life on Monday, June 19, 2017, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 70. Chuck, the son of Walter Ramon and Wilma Marie (Kinnamon) Lackey, was a resident of Meeker. He grew up and attended school in Dale, graduating from Dale High School in 1964. Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He married Debbie Kay Glenn on October 17, 1981. In his early years, Chuck served as a minister. He worked over the years as a photographer, electrician and carpenter. He enjoyed carving, cooking, writing and working with the elderly. Chuck was a member of the American Legion. He and Debbie worked together on many projects including those related to his teaching at Cushing Schools. Chuck touched many children’s lives and each and every one touched his life as well. He was affectionately known as the “child whisperer” due to his natural ability to calm a classroom and the relationships he built with the children he worked with. Most importantly, Chuck loved the Lord and his family deeply. He was a devoted husband, father and “Pappy” and he will be missed. Chuck’s parents; brother-in-law, Jim Hawk; father-in-law, Jack Glenn; special friend, Miles Young and various other relatives preceded him in death. Chuck is survived by his wife, Debbie Kay Lackey; sons, Raymond “Ray” Luke Lackey and his wife Shae of Meeker; Kedron and Crystal Lackey of Norman and Kelley Lackey of Moore; daughter, Kemmie and Shane Tolbert of Norman; grandchildren, Kimiko Lackey, Brianna Lackey, Brittany Lackey, Hayden Tolbert, Seth Tolbert and Chloe Tolbert; mother-in-law, Edna Glenn of Del City; step mother-in-law, Connie Glenn, of Bethany; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Leda Glenn of Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Larry Daley of Shawnee and many other family and friends. The Lackey family wishes to thank the Meeker Police and Fire and Rescue teams for their quick actions and hard efforts. Special appreciation is also extended to the attentive staff at Oklahoma Heart Hospital for their various efforts and their constant care and compassion to the family as well as the valiant attempts to help the families’ loved one, Chuck. To the staff and children of Cushing Schools, Chuck loved each and every one he had contact with there.
