Carolyn Ruth (Gunn) Sober passed away at her home in Prague, Oklahoma, surrounded by those she loved on August 13, 2019. Carolyn was born on March 6, 1945 in Pickton, Texas. She was the daughter of Ruben Leo and Leva Lou Creay (Ellidge) Gunn. Carolyn had the heart of a true caregiver, raising multiple generations of her family. The impact she had on those she loved can be seen from each generation of her family that she touched. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister and will be greatly missed. Carolyn married the love of her life, Gail Godfery Sober in Austin, Texas on Good Friday (April 12) of 1963. The two were happily married and recently celebrated their 56th anniversary. Their marriage brought two children, Gail Sober Jr. and Debbie Sober Hassinger and many grandkids and great grandkids. Carolyn loved taking care of her family. Most everyone who knew her called her grandma. One of her greatest joys was to put together wonderful holidays and family dinners. Christmas being her favorite. Her holidays meals always included turkey, ham, at least two ducks and maybe more. No meal was complete without her famous crab salad. Carolyn’s family was not the only benefactor of her good will and kind heart. Carolyn never met a stranger. She was not for her willingness to give to anyone in need. She would pick up hitchhikers and would often provide meals to homeless she came across. Carolyn also loved the outdoors. Carolyn was a gardener, which was no surprise with her nurturing heart. She also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds. One of her favorite past times was to go fishing with her husband, Gail. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Virginia Gunn Maxey. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gail Godfery Sober Sr.; one son, Gail Sober Jr and wife Christina and Debbie Sober Hassinger and Rob; grandchildren, Terri Laizure and husband Chris, Christopher Sober and Lisa, Dusti Welch and Tommy, Tasha Vicks, Karina Long and husband Dakota, Brandon Rex, Ashley Sober, Austin Sober and Lauren Hassinger; great-grand children, Maison, Madisyn, Patience, Lashayla, Tommiah, Nathias, Josiah, Jacob, Bentley, Abigail, Lexy, Abryana, Katherine, Acyn and Troy. She loved greatly and was loved greatly. She will be missed by many. Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, August 19th at 1:00 PM. Services will be held at Calvary Way Church in Prague with Pastor Starland Davis officiating. A Graveside Service will immediately follow at Prague Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague. An online guestbook is available at www.parksbrothers.net.
