Carl Dee Shook of Meeker, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 83. Carl was born on June 23, 1941 in Ravia, Oklahoma. He was the son of Stephen “S.A.” Shook Jr and Johnnie (Carter) Floyd. Carl grew up in Willow, Oklahoma and was a 1959 graduate of Granite High School. After high school, Carl went to work for Southwestern Bell in Oklahoma City, where he met June Garten and the two were married in 1963. Together, they raised three children and made their home in Meeker. Carl worked as a field technician for Southwestern Bell, through their transition to AT&T, where he retired in 1999.
Carl was a known for his gentle and patient spirit. He cared for others deeply and was always there when called upon. He was humble, caring and had a way of calming those around him. Carl loved his family and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with them. He looked forward to each Saturday dinner, where the family always meet for dinner. Especially enjoyed it when they had dinner at IHOP, where he always ordered his favorite pancakes. After his retirement from AT&T, Carl took up fishing and in doing so reconnected with his brothers and cousins. They would spend a great deal of time fishing and even more time talking about it.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Winifred Shook and Ernest Shook and his stepsister, Sue McCoy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of more than 61 years, June Shook; two daughters, Carla Huff and her husband, Charles and Melanie Mize and her husband, James; his son, Aaron Shook and his wife, Kimberly; two stepbrothers, Donald McCoy and Harold McCoy; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Carl’s family has requested to donations be made in Carl’s honor to the American Cancer Society (8400 Silver Crossing, Oklahoma City, OK 73132 / (800) 227-2345 / cancer.org )
