Carl "Bill" Sharp

Carl 'Bill' Bailey Sharp was born on July 22, 1920, in Devol, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, at the age of 90. Carl, the son of Carl Elmer and Lucy Lee (Ledford) Sharp, was a resident of Paden. He married Ruth (Seebeck) Johnson on May 14, 1976 in Chickasha. Carl entered the United States Army on June 6, 1940. He served in the Sicilian and Italian Campaigns during World War II. Carl was appointed Corporal, Company A, 179th Infantry on May 16, 1942. He was awarded Expert Bayonet, Marksman Badge and Auto Rifle, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star medal and other medals. He was honorably discharged on November 23, 1944. Carl retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 23 years of service in August of 1989. He enjoyed fishing and hanging out at Holik's Gas Station after retirement. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers; Wesley, Marvin, Reece, Jack, Elbert, and Richard, and two sisters; Ila Faye Shipp and Opal Nash. Survivors include wife, Ruth Sharp of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Richard and Sandy Sharp of Moore, Brian and Joanna Sharp of Paden; daughters, Janet Bond of Moore, Terri Johnson of Paden; grandsons, Carl Richard Sharp, Jr., and his wife Amber of Tuttle, Dalton Sharp of Paden, Michael Bond of Oklahoma City; grand-daughters, Natalie Sharp of Moore, Amanda Sharp of Paden; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Blake Sharp of Tuttle. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 10:00 AM, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Bro. Paul Heard officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memory Gardens Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
