Bruce Howard Newby of Chandler, Oklahoma, was the 11th child of 13 born to Emra Lee Newby and Martha Elizabeth Harvey. He was born at Gate, Oklahoma on February 18, 1942. Bruce went to be with his Savior on the morning of June 28, 2020, in Stroud, Oklahoma, at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 10 days. Bruce grew up on the farm helping with milking the cows and other chores. He graduated from Gate High School in 1960. He attended Friends Bible College (now Barclay College) in Haviland, Kansas. He played many sports in school including basketball, baseball and soccer. Bruce eventually graduated from college in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. During his years at Haviland, he met Joyce Clark, and they were married June 9, 1963. They recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Three children were born to this union.Between years of schooling, Bruce worked on ranches and breaking horses. After graduation, he and Joyce served in ministry together at Friends Churches in Booker, Texas; Enid, Oklahoma; Glen Elder, Kansas, and Chandler, Oklahoma. After retiring, First Presbyterian Church called him to be their interim pastor for the month of May 2007, he was still the pastor there at the time of his passing after 13 plus years. Bruce's hobby and pastime were training horses and team roping. He was so proud of his 1st place saddle won at Lazy E in 2006. He was an assistant volunteer baseball coach to Mark Howard at Chandler High School for several years. The years of 1996-1999 were special as they won the State Championship in 1997 and 1998, and State Runner-Up in 1996 and 1999. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers (Cecil, Edgar and Max); 4 sisters (Pearl, Vivian, Evelyn and Helen); 1 niece and 1 nephew. He is survived by his wife Joyce of the home; son Kurtis Newby of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 2 daughters and spouses Janette and Randy Brooks of Wichita, Kansas and Kayla and Wayne Floyd of Booker, Texas; 4 grandchildren Tyler Brooks (Savannah) of Wichita, Kansas, Allison Floyd of Temple, Texas, Nathan Brooks (Ashley) of Derby, Kansas, and Kelsey Floyd of Perryton, Texas (fiancé Tyler Wise of Booker, Texas; Bruce was supposed to officiate their wedding on December 19). Bruce is also survived by 4 great - grandchildren Adelaine, Easton, Olive and Trenton and #5 due in December; 3 brothers Ron Newby of Wheatridge, Colorado, Gary Newby of Beaver, Oklahoma and Roger Newby of Chandler, Oklahoma; 2 sisters Carolyn Barnett of Erie, Colorado and Marilyn Sulak of Springfield, Georgia; many nieces and nephews and other family members and many friends. Memorials in honor of Bruce may be made to Barclay College, (607 N. Kingman, Haviland, KS 67059), Chandler Athletics (901 S. CHS St, Chandler, OK 74834) or God & Peoples Pantry (Chandler, OK 74834). Services for Bruce will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Chandler First Baptist Church with Pastor Dustin Lampe officiating with burial to follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler, Oklahoma. There will be a visitation Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from Noon - 8:00 pm with family greeting friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma.
