Betty Jean Riede

February 20, 1933 — March 2, 2025

Stroud

Betty Jean Riede passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday March 2, 2025. It was one of her wishes.

She was born in Stroud, Oklahoma on February 20, 1933 to Clyde and Midge (Manning) Allen. She graduated from Stroud High School in 1951 and later that year met her husband to be in Stillwater at Oklahoma State University. She married James Ray Riede on August 30, 1952 and they were married 57 years until he passed away in 2009. Jim Riede owed the Army 4 years for his ROTC scholarship and Betty loved being a career officer's wife and traveling the world. Japan, Germany and South Korea were 3 countries she lived in for 9 years and also traveled extensively to many European and Asian lands. Betty worked as a secretary wherever they were stationed until Jim retired in 1974. She lived in Stillwater and Oklahoma City until they built their home in Stroud in 1982. She loved playing bridge, quilting at the Methodist Church, tending to her garden and plants and helped Jim take care of the cows or sheep on the farm. Betty was a lifelong member of the Stroud United Methodist Church and loved her Church family.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband James Ray Riede; her parents Clyde and Midge Allen; and brother Benny Jack Allen.

Betty is survived by her daughter Nakita “Nicki” Riede-O’Kelley; her son James Michael Riede and wife Emma Kay Riede; her grandchildren Brandon Reid O’Kelley, Michal-Lynn O’Kelley James Michael Riede II and Mary Rose Coleman; great grandchildren Bralei Michal, Taylor, Josie, Demi, Bailey, Peyton, Cami, Ramsey Rae, Gavin, Preston, Tripp, Bella Rose, Finn, Sam and Amelia Grace; she is also survived by extended family and friends
