She was born in Stroud, Oklahoma on February 20, 1933 to Clyde and Midge (Manning) Allen. She graduated from Stroud High School in 1951 and later that year met her husband to be in Stillwater at Oklahoma State University. Betty worked as a secretary wherever they were stationed until Jim retired in 1974. She lived in Stillwater and Oklahoma City until they built their home in Stroud in 1982. She loved playing bridge, quilting at the Methodist Church, tending to her garden and plants and helped Jim take care of the cows or sheep on the farm.
