Obituary: Betty Lou Shirley Betty Lou Shirley was born in Marlow, Oklahoma on September 21, 1944 and departed this life in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the age of 72 years. Betty was the daughter of Vernon Newton Shirley and Bessie Belle (Willis) Shirley. Stroud, OK was her beloved home for most of her life. In her past years Betty was a Nurse‘s Aide, Girl Scout sponsor and full time Aunt to Julie, Tammie and Jamie. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stroud and enjoyed Bible Study and fellowship. She loved to crochet, garden, work puzzles and enjoyed several sitcoms and movies. She enjoyed going to the lake, fishing, laughing and telling her off the wall jokes. Her life was dedicated to rescuing animals of all kinds which brought her great happiness and companionship. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Vernon Ray Shirley and Garey Hugh Shirley, two sisters Joann Shirley and Gloria Sue Shirley, and nephew Jimmie Ray Shirley. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Karen Shirley, four nieces, Jamie Dawn Shirley McCool, Tammie Rae Shirley, Julie Ann Shirley Ingram, Angelina Dean Grider-Sturgill, three nephews, Bobby Shirley, Jeff Shirley, Ronnie Lee Grider and a number of grandnieces, grandnephews, friends and beloved Home Health caretakers Krystal Fite and Becky Turpin. A graveside service is planned for Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stroud Cemetery with Pastor James Bond officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services of Stroud.
