Betty Josephine Rozell

Betty Josephine Sutt was born December 28, 1926 to Herbert Hub William Sutt and Althea Prudence Grooms-Sutt. She was born 4 miles north of Chandler in Lincoln County. After a very difficult delivery she was the pride of her mother and father. The small family lived north of Chandler in a series of rental farms making a living farming. In 1943 the Sutts purchased a home in chandler at 119 Blaine, and Herbert went to work for Lincoln County. It is there Herbert and Althea made a warm and loving home and spent the rest of their lives together. Herbert passed in 1979, and Althea lived to the fine age of 98, passing 1999. She loved to sing 'How much is that doggie in the window' to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. While living in Chandler Betty graduated from Chandler High School in 1944. After school she worked at the Lindhorst 5 & 10 store until it burned. Also she worked for Anthony''s and the First National Bank. Betty had said many times she enjoyed walking to work uptown with neighbor Vernon Clark. In 1948 Betty met Watts Rozell. She was 21 and Watts 35. After a spring romance the two were married in June. The couple started a home 6 miles north of Chandler on a farm Watts hand recently purchased. It was a small house, old and antiquated even in 1948. The lack of indoor plumbing or other comforts did not stop the couple from raising a large family of seven children there. She had mentioned several times that she did not like being an only child and wanted lots of children. The seven children born to Watts and Betty were Watts Boyd Rozell Jr. 1949, Anna Louise Rozell 1950, Donald Ray Rozell 1952, Roger Lynn Rozell 1954, John Orval Rozell 1956, Nancy Marie Rozell, 1959, and Earl Wayne Rozell 1960. Always the caring mother Betty enjoyed her children and loved them deeply. After Betty''s mother in-law Alta Virginia Rozell passed in 1960, the now large family moved to Watts'' father''s house. The family then cared for watts''s father Enoch Rozell until his death in 1968 at the age of 83. The children of the family attended Union school one mile from the farm. A one room school house for all eight grades. The family''s church was Union Friends Church. The only thing that separated the church and the school in the life of the family was the half mile between them. Betty and Watts lived on the farm raising kids and cattle until Watts''s death in 1992. Ever the devoted and loyal wife Betty cared for Watts thru his lengthy illness as well as her aged mother Althea. Betty enjoyed her family greatly and loved family get together and playing with the grandchildren. Watts''s birthday of August 13 was always a special time for family events. After Watts death in 1992 Betty decided to move back to Chandler. Though not possessing advanced education in the normal sense Betty was a very smart lady who managed her finances and properties well. She was able to purchase a new house in Chandler at 1014 Rozell Lane. Betty cared for her mother there until Althea passed in 1999. In 2000 Betty surprised everyone when she announced that she would marry Clyde Barrett. A widower himself Clyde was a lifelong aquaintenence and husband of high school friend Loretta Kessler. Clyde was truly a blessing to Betty. It is said in her final years Betty enjoyed love, comfort, and happiness with Clyde. A completely devoted husband Clyde cared for Betty''s every need, physical, mental and spiritual. When health allowed Clyde and Betty attended the Baptist church in Davenport. After suffering a stroke Betty''s short term memory was affected. However even in her worst days when asked who holds tomorrow she would clearly respond Jesus Christ. Betty''s opinion on death was as simple and straightforward as the way she lived her life. When someone she knew died she would calmly say: 'We were all going to die someday, and it was just their time.' or one of her most frequent used expressions 'When you got to go, you got to go.' Betty held on to every minute with Clyde and always wanted him near her. She never wanted to be left alone and Clyde
