Betty Jean Burkhart, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and to many others a truly great friend. She passed from this life on August 10, 2017, at the age of 84 years. She was born Betty Jean Sarver in Kansas City, Kansas on January 20, 1933. In 1949, on a trip to see her older sister in Oklahoma City, Betty met the man who convinced her to stay in Oklahoma City by marrying her. They moved to an acreage east of Oklahoma City, built a new home and started a family. In 1959, they built a new home on an acreage near Chandler. Betty helped her husband in a new business that was becoming a popular tread throughout the United States, a motorcycle shop. Betty's husband designed and patented a device that revolutionized the motorcycle racing industry. It was Betty's job to see that the devices were shipped throughout the world. With the motorcycle shop being in Chandler on Rt. 66, it was a must see destination for professional and amateur racers as they raced throughout the United States. A race track was built on the Burkhart farm and several races were held yearly. Many racing riders would stay over for a day or so and Betty made sure they were feed and rested. Many lasting friendships were formed by Betty's kindness and generosity. By marrying young, Betty had a slight disadvantage regarding her knowledge of cooking. She was a quick study and very quickly became known as an excellent cook. She began crocheting and knitting and made entire outfits for many women. She enjoyed making bread from scratch, and canning fruits and vegetables. Betty was generous and shared her talents, time and food. After the death of her husband in 1984, Betty sold the cycle shop and went to work for the State of Oklahoma where she worked until her retirement. Betty met J.D. Ginn, a Chandler native and they married. They shared the same outlook on life and were able to travel and do all the things that interested them. They enjoyed each other's company until his unexpected death in February of 2014. During her entire life, Betty was an avid reader. She could easily read two to three books a week. Betty enjoyed all types of books and gladly shared them with all that shared her passion. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Carrie Sarver, her first husband, Joe Burkhart, and second husband J.D. Ginn, two sisters, Loraine and Claudine, one brother Claud, and numerous nieces and nephews.
