Betty Bohl Baker was born on August 25, 1954, in Moore, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 57. Betty, the daughter of Pete and Elizabeth (Lane) Bohl, was a long-time resident of Prague. She graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics. She married Brian Baker on July 21, 1979 in Houston, Texas. Betty worked many years for Southwestern Bell and recently retired as a pork producer in Hughes County. Locally she was active in the Prague United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, PEO, Prague Schools and school sports, to name just a few. Betty restarted Scouting in Prague in 1993. To date, Troop 485 has produced 11 Eagle Scouts. Betty's involvement in many areas of the community of Prague will be missed. Professionally, Betty was frequently seen at the Capitol engaging with legislators, providing comments during committee meetings and telling the story of Oklahoma's growing pork industry. She served on the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry's CAFO Rules Advisory Committee for 14 years, beginning with its creation in 1998 and serving until her death. In 2003, Gov. Brad Henry appointed Betty to a five-year term on the Oklahoma Agriculture Enhancement and Diversification Board. Baker Farms was recognized as a National Environmental Steward Award winner in 1998 by National Hog Farmer Magazine. Her father and brother, Ronald P. Bohl, preceded Betty in death. Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Brian Baker of the home; son, Travis Baker of the home; mother, Eizabeth 'Liz' Bohl of Prague other relatives and many friends. Betty lived her life with purpose and passion. Her family, Brian and Travis, always came first. They were her world and she was so very proud of them both. Always a part of her life, giving guidance and support, her mom, Liz, was a blessing to her. Her love for her family was evident as she cared for many members of her family. She loved life and was always excited and ready for new experiences and adventures. Her laughter and spirit were so infectious it would catch you off guard. She was never afraid to try new things and was always eager to do whatever she needed to do for family or friends. Betty lived her life to the fullest and was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Betty had a wonderful relationship with her Savior and always took time to be with her Lord to give thanks for all her blessings. Faithful in her daily walk, Betty had her priorities straight. She was strong inside and out. She was always there for others who needed her strength emotionally and maybe even physically -- to listen, move furniture, cry, clean the kitchen, load hogs, clean barns, or build a campfire -- she could do it all. She never asked anyone to do anything that she could or would not do for herself. Betty was a wonderful example of how we all should live our lives: make a difference. She provided love, assistance, guidance, and opinions, always wanting other to be victorious if life. Many people, young and old, will never forget the impact Betty had on their lives.
