Bernice Cansler, a long-time Chandler, Oklahoma resident, was born on June 13, 1925, in Chandler, Oklahoma, and departed this life on September 13, 2003, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 78. Bernice was the daughter of Joe H. and Mabel Ruth Kalka Clarkson. She attended Stone and Morning Star Elementary schools in Lincoln County and was a graduate of the Davenport High School class of 1943. She also attended Oklahoma A&M. Bernice married James W. Jimmy Cansler in Chandler, Oklahoma, on March 26, 1948. She was past president of the Oklahoma Chrysanthemum Society and held various positions in the National Chrysanthemum Society as well as the Oklahoma City Chapter. She worked at Britton Brothers in Oklahoma City for a number of years, was a member of the First Baptist Church, and the Village Baptist Church Homebound class. Her parents, husband, one sister, and an infant brother preceded Bernice in death. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Pauline Clarkson of Chandler, OK; sister and brother-in-law, Joe and Charles Jenkins of Rockwall, TX; brothers-in-law Bill Kerr of Midwest City, OK, and Jean Charles Cansler of Pikesville, KY; 7 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 17, 2003, at the New Zion Cemetery in Chandler, Oklahoma, with Rev. Keith Burkhart officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler, Oklahoma.
