Avis Jean (Sutterfield) VanZant, 92, went home to be with the Lord on September 25, 2021, in Prague, Oklahoma. Avis Jean was born July 29, 1929, on the family farm west of Prague to James Farnum and Vida (Webb) Sutterfield. She attended Turner, Bellemont, and graduated from Prague High School in 1947. In January of 1953 she married Charles VanZant. Avis began her career at First National Bank. She then continued on to Prague Hospital, retiring after 26 years as bookkeeper. After retirement she worked part-time at Parks Brothers Funeral Home. She was a member at First United Methodist Church where she served as Treasurer for many years. She also cherished the time she spent with the ladies in the Junior Federated Arts Club. Avis Jean enjoyed baking her famous chocolate chip blonde brownies, doing crossword and word search puzzles, and crafting felt and sequin Christmas stockings and ornaments. She was known for her love of giraffes and George Straight. She also enjoyed a competitive game of skip-bo with her grandchildren. Avis Jean never met a stranger and always saw the best in people. She was a thoughtful, caring person and was mom and grandma to many. The true joy in her life was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Loy Houston Sutterfield, and brother-in-law, Richard Rice. Left to cherish her memories are son Jay and wife Angie VanZant, and daughter Lana and husband Eric Dunn. Grandchildren Jarrod and Nicole VanZant, Amy and Dustin Lakins, Raylee, Isabelle, Aaron and Lakota VanZant, all of Prague. Matthew and Lizzy Dunn of Pensacola, Florida, Bryce Dunn of Killeen, Texas, and Jayson Dunn of Greenville, South Carolina. Great grandchildren include Grace, Wyatt and Waylon VanZant, Eli, Brynlee and Hattie Lakins, Olivia Dunn and Matias Dunn. Other survivors include two sisters Maxine Lokey of Prague and Loretta “Tiny” Rice of Guthrie and a host of treasured cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
