Almeta Roy Harris was born December 1, 1933 to Angeline Makes Noise Roy and Louis Roy Sr. Almeta was member of the Ponca Nation of Oklahoma and the Sicangu Nation of South Dakota. Almeta was the second born of seven siblings: Lou Ann New Moon, Barbara Rhodd, Eunice Kihega, Polly Brown, Louis Roy Jr. and Mike Roy. Almeta attended Chilocco Indian School and then graduated from Haskell Technical School. Almeta married her Husband of 47 years, Ron Harris Sr on February 22, 1955. Ronnie passed away on July 11, 2002. Almeta remained at their home in Stroud, Oklahoma until 2018, then she moved to Carnegie, Oklahoma. Almeta passed away on November 18, 2020 in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Almeta was a proud member of Native American Church from 1959 until the present. She enjoyed dancing, attending Pow Wows, and watching sports. Her greatest joy was watching her family dance and play sports. Almeta was very involved in her community and enjoyed working for the tribes until her retirement. She was best known for her contribution to Indian Child Welfare and working in the health care field. Almeta and Ronnie had five children: Michael Harris, RG Harris, Sandy Harris, Eddy Joe Harris, and Tiffany Hodge. They had eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. All loved by her adopted children and family. Almeta will be greatly missed in the Pow Wow Arena, the workplace, the fireplace and the homeplace. There is no greater love than the love of a mother towards her children. Almeta had love towards everyone who called her “Mom”, “Auntie”, and “Grandma”. Visitation for Almeta will take place Friday, November 20, 2020 from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at Parks Brothers Chapel. Burial will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Sac and Fox Tribal Cemetery. Condolences may be offered online at www.parksbrothers.net.
