Bill Porter was born on July 21, 1921, in Pomona, California, and departed this life on Thursday, June, 19, 2008, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 86. Bill, the son of David Calvin Webster and Violet Young Porter, was a longtime resident of Prague and had recently moved to Stroud. He married Dorothy Evelyn Martin on August 29, 1942 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He and his wife Dorothy raised their children in Tehachapi, CA. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2002. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in World War II. Bill was a farmer and rancher most of his life. Bill worked as a road foreman for Lincoln County and later drove a school bus for the Prague Public Schools for many years. Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge and United Methodist Church. His parents and five brothers also preceded Bill in death. Survivors include special friend, Billie Carol Shipman; son and daughter-in-law, David and Vickie Porter of Prague; daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Gary Turner of Tecumseh, Luanne and Ron McMahan of Tecumseh; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 2:00 PM, at Prague Cemetery in Prague with Rev. Larry Jacobson officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
