T. L. 'Monk' Blocker was born on July 9, 1934, in Prague, Oklahoma, and departed this life to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 78. Monk, the son of Bill and Ovie (Gunter) Blocker, was a resident of Shawnee. He married Kathy Gentry on May 19, 1958 in Ada, Oklahoma. Monk proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Johnson Church of God. He was an extremely hard-working man having worked as a brick mason for over 60 years. He loved his family and his friends. Monk took great pride in the brick grave markers he created. His parents, four brothers, and one sister preceded Monk in death. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Kathy Blocker of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Will and April Blocker of Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Dean Herron of Earlsboro, Debbie and Doug Proctor of Shawnee; grandchildren, Steven Blocker, Bailey Blocker, Crystal Snyder, Tommy Ellis, Amber Ellis; 9 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carolyn Blocker; and numerous other family members and a host of friends. The Blocker family will receive friends at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague on Thursday, January 17, 2013, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2:00 PM, at Johnson Cemetery in Shawnee with Rev. Charles Higgins officiating.
