Sharon Immel

Sharon (Green) Immel received her heavenly reward after a hard fought battle with dementia and cancer on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 in Prague, Oklahoma.

Sharon was born December 1, 1938 in Wheeler, Texas to Roe Harmon and Patricia Maurine (Mayfield) Green. Growing up in a small town in the panhandle of Texas surrounded by kinfolk and friends gave Sharon a good home base throughout her life. This was needed early at the young age of 7 when her mother died. Sharon became a mother figure for her two younger siblings, Tillie and Bill, at this time. A proud Wheeler Mustang from the class of 1957, she received numerous awards including Miss Wheeler High, Most Popular, and Most Intellectual. Sharon never met a sport she didn't like to play and was successful at all of them. Along with her siblings, she was part of a traveling 3 act play during her high school years as well.

On July 4, 1956 at the rodeo in Wheeler a tall cowboy from McLean, was smitten when he spotted Sharon and from that moment on Elmer Rex Immel and Sharon were inseparable.

They were married in Wheeler on July 4, 1957 and celebrated 57 years together until his passing in 2014. Rex was a jack of all trades and Sharon was by his side through them all. This involved many moves and living in numerous towns including Wheeler, Twitty, and Kellerville in Texas, as well as El Reno, Choctaw, Prague, and Seminole in Oklahoma. If anyone needed help packing up or unpacking for a move, Sharon was the professional to call for help.

Sharon worked numerous jobs throughout her life wherever she lived including secretary, bookkeeper, dairy owner, butcher, greyhound kennel owner, farmer, and certified nurses aide. At the age of 55, she graduated from Seminole State College with her RN degree and worked her entire nursing career at the Creek Nation Hospital in Okemah, Oklahoma. Sharon retired to care for Rex in his final years. She never met a job or task she couldn't master and succeeded wherever she was planted.

Rex and Sharon had four children - Lisa, Elizabeth, Joseph, and Marcy - and they are surely her greatest accomplishments. She loved her family, friends, coworkers, and church family dearly and frequently volunteered to help out with babysitting, drive grandkids to a game, an extra shift at work, bake kolaches, judge kolache costumes, and sing in the choir. Sharon was a long time member of the United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Eastern Star. She was a master puzzle solver, always up for a game of cards, yahtzee, dominoes or whatever game a kiddo picked out. Sharon truly never met a stranger and if you were blessed to be hugged by her, she considered you family. Her smile was infectious and she was a beautiful woman both inside and out.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Rex, her parents, sister-in-laws Sue (Lester) Green and Sharon (Immel) Ellis, and one nephew Rodney Joe Jamieson.

Those left to cherish Sharon and the legacy of love she left behind are: Lisa and husband Richard Hefner of Seminole, Ok; Liz and husband Bert Hester of Osage, Ok; Joe Immel and wife Laura (Hester) of Seminole, Ok; and Marcy Immel of Prague, Ok; her sister Tillie and husband Jim Jamieson of Guymon, Ok; brother Bill Green of Pampa, Tx. Grandchildren surviving Sharon are: Kyle Hester and Laci, Kassidy (Cowen) and Richie Lachner, Kimberly (Hester) and Darin Nei, Katie (Hefner) and Migel Moctezuma, Jon Hester and Alyssa Perez, Ryan Hefner, Reed Hefner, Joey Immel, Cristopher Brown, Sarah Immel, Ellie Brown, and Jessalyn Brown. Great-grandchildren are: Grace Hester, Nate Hester, Gabe Hester, Liam Hester, Abi Hester, Eli Moctezuma, Serenna Nei, Audie Nei, Hester Nei, and Sophia Moctezuma. Sharon is also survived by special cousins Joey Sabbe and Elaine Langley and numerous nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
