Sam Waters

Sam Waters, long-time Davenport, Oklahoma, resident, was born on April 25, 1922, in Davenport, Oklahoma, and departed this life on January 18, 2010, at his home in Davenport, at the age of 87 years. Sam was the son of Alfred P. and Mildred (Townsley) Waters. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Sam married Maxine Gunn on August 24, 1946, in Davenport, Oklahoma. He was the superintendent at the Texaco Gas Plant in Davenport for many years. Sam served as the Davenport City Mayor, Davenport volunteer fireman, and was a member of the Davenport First Baptist Church. His parents, wife, one daughter, Jill Ann Waters; three brothers and two sisters preceded Sam in death. Survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Margaret Waters of McKinney, TX, one brother, Kenneth Waters of Davenport, OK, three sisters, Anna Lou Swan of Davenport, OK, Virginia Waters of Davenport, OK, Betty Grimm of Caldwell, KS, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Davenport Senior Citizen Center, P.O. Box 83, Davenport, OK 74026. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 22, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Davenport, with Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Davenport Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.
