Robert Wayne States

Bobby Wayne States was born on April 24, 1934, in Belmont, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at his home at the age of 74. Bobby, the son of Henry Clay and Grace Mabel Guffey States, was a life-long resident of Prague. He graduated from Centerview High School in 1951. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict while stationed at Fort Wolters Army Base in Mineral Wells, TX. He was a member of the VFW Post 1317 and a member of the American Legion Post 16, both of Shawnee. He married Glenda Joan Terrell on October 31, 1953 at the Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prague, OK. Together they farmed and ranched until health issues forced his early retirement. Bobby enjoyed telling stories and always welcomed visitors into his home. He especially loved spending time with his family and was a wonderful 'Pa' to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Johnny States; and one granddaughter, Marcy States. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Glenda States of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Reggie and Julana States of Prague, Marty and April States of Prague; daughters and son-in-law, Renae and Wes Whitaker of Luther, Tammy States of Tulsa; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Pat States of Shawnee; sisters, Norma Walden of Muskogee, Velma Harris of Prague; sister-in-law, Erlene Davis of Shawnee, Donna Walden and her husband Harold of Prague; brothers-in-law, Buster Terrell and his wife Marie of Prague, Harold Walden and his wife Donna of Prague; 10 Grandchildren; 8 Great-grandchildren; 2 Great-great-granchildren; Nieces; Nephews; Great- Nephews; and Great -Nieces. Viewing and visitation will be at the funeral home until 9:00 PM, Friday, April 17, 2009. The casket will not be opened at the church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM, at the Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prague with Bro. Mack Peercy and Bro. Charlie Clem officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden Grove Cemetery.
