Richard Lamont Wintz

Richard Lamont Wintz was born June 26, 1935 in the family home East of Kendrick, Oklahoma and passed from this life, surrounded by his family, on February 12, 2019 in Drumright, Oklahoma. He was the fourth of eight children born to Ira and Serena (Brewer) Wintz. After attending a small rural country school, he graduated from Kendrick High school in 1954. While in high school he played baseball and basketball for the Kendrick Comets. On September 24, 1955 he married Geneva McCall at her parent’s home in Stroud. They had been married over 63 years at the time of his death. He worked as lineman for Central Oklahoma Telephone, an electrician for the City of Stroud and as a contract electrician until he and Geneva opened Wintz Electrical Wholesale Company in 1973. After closing their business, he worked several years for Trawick Ranch and for Lincoln County District One. Richard retired from the Stroud Fire Department, having served as volunteer firefighter from the 1960s until the 1980s. He enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing. He coached little league baseball and also umpired baseball and officiated basketball games, but his most enjoyment came from working with his horses, wagons and buggies. Many hours were spent with a team of horses pulling a wagon or buggy up and down the road or plowing his garden with a team of horses. His favorites were Belgian draft horses Babe and Dolly, sisters that weighted over a ton each. He will be remembered for his quick wit, smart remarks and colorful stories. Richard is survived by his wife Geneva, of the home East of Stroud, son Randy and his wife Bobbie of Stroud, son Scott and his wife Barbara of Chandler, and daughter Michelle Andersen and her husband Thomas of Brentwood, California. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Meagan Wintz, Jeff Wintz and Daniel Anderson. Other survivors include sister Treva Gooch and Kenneth of Stroud, sister Wanda Gilman and Roy of Stroud, brother Carl Wintz and Debbie of Broken Arrow, sister Gayle Keane and Jimmy of Chandler, along with several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in laws Jeff and Flora McCall, brothers Bill Wintz, Luman Wintz and sister Norma Jordan. Funeral Services will be on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Stroud with Pastor Paul Ragle officiating. Burial to follow at the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
