Phyllis Darlene Peace Tipton passed away August 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 2, 1950, in Kendrick, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Pond Creek High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Central State University in 1972, then her Masters Degree in Early Childhood from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1993. Phyllis was the 1996 Shawnee Teacher of the Year and was one of twelve finalists for the Oklahoma Teacher of Year. She was a long-time member of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority of Women Educators, Theta Chapter of Lincoln County. She retired in 2017 after forty five years of teaching. Phyllis has been employed by Davenport, Chandler, North Enid, and Shawnee Public School systems. She was an Assistant Professor of Education, Division of Teacher Education at Oklahoma Baptist University. She is preceded in death by her father, Phillip Peace and her sister-n-law, Cindie Peace. Phyllis is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lindsy and Matt Welch of Norman, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Aliya Kernal, Jenna Welch, Madison Welch, and Jack Welch; her mother Minnie Peace; one brother, Terry Peace; one sister, Vicki Addison; and uncle, Troy Crail and his wife Linda. She also leaves behind her nephews, J.J. Peace, Chris Addison, Joey Addison, Bryce Peace, Kenny Addison, Todd Peace, Aaron Addison, Jerade Tipton, and Brandon Tipton, many cousins, friends, and former students. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Oklahoma Baptist University Jimmie Russell, Children's Library in memory of Phyllis Tipton. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 19, 2017, at the Davenport First Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler, Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma.
