Neoma Faye Bateson

Neoma Faye Martin Bateson was born on September 22, 1914, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Sunday, July 27, 2008, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, at the age of 93. Neoma, the daughter of William Alford and Myrtle Tomblin Martin, was a life-long resident of Lincoln County until she moved to Sapulpa 2002 due to her health. She graduated from high school in 1932 and in one year and two summers, earned a teaching certificate. She married Lloyd Leroy Bateson on June 7, 1935, in El Reno, Oklahoma. They each received Bachelor of Science degrees at Central State and master''s degrees from Oklahoma State. Neoma taught school, coached, and led 4-H clubs for 35 years. She was chosen Outstanding Civic Leader of America in 1963 and was president of State 4-H Leaders, Oklahoma Rural Schools, and Kappa Kappa Iota. Neoma was a Rebekah and a member of the Prague and Lincoln County Historical Societies. She volunteered at the museum, nutrition center, lodge, and the First Christian Church. Neoma and her husband motored to all 48 continental states and took tours to many other places, but Oklahoma was their favorite place. Neoma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years on January 18, 1995; her son, Buel Leroy Bateson in 1946; and one brother, Clarence Martin. Neoma had a stained glass window installed at the First Christian Church in memory of Lloyd and Buel. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Elmer Leroy and Alma Martin of Sapulpa; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 10:00 AM, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Rev. Bill Shaw officiating. Interment will follow at Kellerby Cemetery in Sparks. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
