Mell Nevelle Walker

Mell Nevelle Walker, Choctaw, OK, age 86, was born April 7, 1920, in Weatherford, TX. He was the son of Ab S. & Maggie Burthrie Robbinson Walker. He left this life on August 9, 2006, in Midwest City, OK. Mell served over 23 years in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the military on October 22, 1960 as a Sergeant First Class. He worked as a maintenance technician for the Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools until his retirement in July, 1985. Mell was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the VFW, NRA and the First Baptist Church in Choctaw. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and bird hunting. Mell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; one brother and a nephew. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Buss Walker, Choctaw, OK; 2 sons & 1 daughter-in-law, Marvin & Diana Youngblood, Del City, OK, Jesse Youngblood, Choctaw, OK; 1 daughter & son-in-law, Sue & Gordon Heller, Choctaw, OK; 2 nieces, Donnell Doss, Weatherford, TX, Rilda Horner, Yantis, TX; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 12, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Choctaw, OK, with Dr. Ray Sikes, Rev. Toby Youngblood and Rev. Gerald Lunsford officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Choctaw, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service, Harrah, Oklahoma.
