Mancel Ellis was born on July 25, 1913, in Prague, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Friday, April 8, 2005, in Prague, at the age of 91. Mancel, the son of Lee Ellis and Myrtle Gravitt Ellis, was a long-time resident of Prague. He graduated from Prague High School and was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Navy Seabees in Hawaii. Mancel married Idelle Lowe on September 7, 1940. He retired from Amerada Petroleum Corp. following 35 years of service. Mancel was a member and elder of the Prague First Christian Church over 50 years and served as the building contractor for the education building. He was also a member of the Prague American Legion and the VFW. He donated the patio floor and built the lattice work canopy for the Prague Municipal Hospital. Mancel also helped build the gazebo in the Prague City Park and moved the rebuilt KC Club to its present site. In 1983, Mancel received the Man of the Year award from the Prague Lion?s Club.
