Lorraine Stinchcomb

March 20, 1921 — March 1, 2014

Retired educator, Lorraine Thomas Stinchcomb, Oklahoma City, was born March 20, 1921 in Chandler, Oklahoma to John Wesley Thomas and Bessie Viola Koonce Thomas. She passed away on March 1, 2014 in Oklahoma City. Lorraine taught in several school districts across Oklahoma and California, including Chandler. She attended Davenport and Chandler schools before graduating from Chandler High School. She then received her bachelor’s degree from Central State College and earned a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. Many of her students fondly recall the times she read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Where the Red Fern Grows to her classes. While in Chandler, Lorraine was an active member of the Chandler First United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O. and Chandler Business and Professional Women’s Association. She was chosen 1973 Lincoln County Teacher of the Year and 1999 Chandler High School Alumnus of the year. She later moved to Oklahoma City and was also an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and participated in activities at her residence, The Statesman Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Floyd Wilson Dunning, Jesse Berry, and George Stinchcomb; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Thomas and Zola Thomas Brixey; brothers, Wilford Dale Thomas, Byron Garfield Thomas and Robert Christopher Thomas. She is survived by one daughter Ginger Dunning Clark, Oklahoma City and two sons and their wives: Kelly Michael and Cynthia Dunning, Corona, California; Thomas Wilson and Judy Dunning, Edmond, Oklahoma; five grandsons, Robert Clark, Jr., Edmond, Oklahoma; Jeffrey Clark, Newcastle, Oklahoma; Patrick Dunning, Corona, California; Michael Dunning, Edmond, Oklahoma and Evan Dunning, Edmond, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5th, at Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler, Oklahoma with Reverend Mike DeMoss officiating. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, March 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Parks Brothers in Chandler.
