Leon Dee Son was born in Oklahoma City on April 29, 1932, Oklahoma and departed this life on Monday, May 27, 2013 in Oklahoma City Oklahoma, at the age of 81. Leon, the son of Clyde Lee and Retha Ola (Hamby) Son, was a resident of Meeker. He and Marjorie Cassady were married in Oklahoma City on October 5, 1951. Leon was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the United States Air Force. Following his discharge from the Air Force, Leon had a long and successful career as an accountant for Big Chief Drilling Company in Oklahoma City. After retiring from Big Chief, he and his wife moved to Meeker where they purchased the Meeker Variety Store with partners Homer and Marlene Barnett. They owned and operated the store from 1973 to 1984. Leon was a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church where he had been a Deacon for over 30 years and had served as Treasurer for 35 years. He was affectionately known as “G-Pa” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Son; three daughters and sons in law, Dee Ann and Pete Burling, Oklahoma Ctiy, Telva and John Judd, Meeker, Holly and Johnny Chambers, Newcastle, OK; sisters in law,Carolyn Beavers, Oklahoma City, Donna & Jake Knol, Oklahoma City; three, grandchildren, Mindy Brown and her husband, James, Kristi Miller and her husband, Luke Chambers; seven great grandchildren; one great granddaughter; other relatives and many friends. The family would like to acknowledge with sincere appreciation and thanks for the many special caregivers who have helped care for Leon. The Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001 has been designated by the family as appropriate for memorial contributions. Viewing and Visitation will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29th at 10:00 AM in the Morningstar Baptist Church with Dan Ward officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Meeker.
