Juanita Maye Kelton

Juanita Maye Kelton was born on January 12, 1922, in Paden, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Friday, January 4, 2013, in Shawnee Oklahoma, at the age of 90. Mrs. Kelton, the daughter of Harvey Oscar and Blanche Lillian (Pearce) Muncy, was a long-time resident of Prague. She was the valedictorian of the 1939 graduating class of Paden High School. She graduated from East Central State College in 1944. Mrs. Kelton taught business education in the Prague and Paden Schools for five years and later at Strother for a year and a half. She worked at the First National bank from 1959 to 1962 when she again started teaching at Prague High School. Mrs. Kelton was chosen 'Teacher of the Year' for the 1978-79 school year. She retired after 30 years of teaching and was immediately employed as the treasurer for the City of Prague. She retired in 1991 and increased her volunteer hours. Mrs. Kelton was a member of the Prague United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, a member of Chapter #127 of the Order of the Eastern Star, was an active volunteer with the Prague Historical Society, and was Red Czech Diva in addition to many hours devoted to the community of Prague. Her parents and daughter, Lynne Wilkerson, preceded Mrs. Kelton in death. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Max and Glenda Kelton of Yukon; daughter, Caryl Hawkins of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Bret Wood, Will Wood, Cary Denzler, Kiley Palmer, Max Kelton, Jr., Trevor Ryan Kelton, Allyson Nicole Kelton; several great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Dick Wilkerson of Meeker. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church in Prague with Rev. Scott Keneda officiating. Interment will follow at the Prague Cemetery.
