Jerome Lee “Bud” Johnson was born on April 23, 1942, in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Sunday, July 3, 2016, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 74. Bud, the son of Ones and Sylvia (Morris) Johnson, was a resident of Shawnee. Bud graduated high school at Davenport with the class of 1960. After high school he went to work for Chandler Memorials. He married Shirley June Moody on June 23, 1962. Bud and Shirley moved to Shawnee and he took another job for a memorial company. They eventually bought the company and owned and operated Shawnee Memorials until his passing. He was very good at what he did. Bud was an absolute artist with stone, although he would never admit it himself. He was a classic car enthusiast, winning multiple awards at car shows. Bud loved history, particularly Oklahoma history. He was also an avid reader which kept him prepared for any conversation no matter the subject. He loved old westerns. His stories, quick wit, and strong moral character will be missed. Bud’s parents and a sister, Barbara Clark, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Shirley Johnson, of the home; daughters and son-in-lawBonnie Johnson and Bruce Frey of Lawrence, Kansas and Leah Johnson of Topeka, Kansas; sisters and brother-in-law Betty and Henry Jones of Yukon and Sue Blakely of Davenport and many other family and friends.
