Edna Jayne Markert, 81, of Stroud, OK died December 13, 2011. She was born September 11, 1930 in Wewoka to Grace and John King. She was preceded in death by her son John Conrad Markert, daughter Constance Jayne Markert-Weiss and her parents. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Dr.George Conrad Markert, daughter Jennifer A. Markert of Chicago, sons Kim David Markert , AIA, of Boston and Dr.Eric Markert of Tulsa, and grandsons Conrad and George Markert of Tulsa. Jayne graduated from Wewoka High School in 1948. While attending Oklahoma Baptist University, she met George Conrad Markert, whom she married in 1949. Jayne graduated from Northeastern State College with BA in English and Speech and received an MS in Housing and Design from Oklahoma State University. Jayne taught English in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City public school systems. In 1961 the Markert family moved to Anadarko, where her husband Conrad was a physician. In 1964, the Markerts moved to Stroud, OK. Jayne was active in the American Association of University Women and the Stroud Neighborhood Association for historic preservation. Jayne sold and collected antiques, especially lace and linens, and had a small interior design practice. A loving and active housewife and mother, Jayne was the first of her family to receive an advanced degree and expressed pride in the academic achievements of her children in English, history, architecture, geology, French, Spanish, mechanical engineering and medicine. Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Stroud, OK on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Burl Mackey officiating. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Stroud, Oklahoma.
