Bessie Louise Whitnah

Bessie Louise Whitnah, 93, formerly of Choctaw, OK, passed away Nov. 22, 2015. Born to John & Edna Young, Feb. 20, 1922, in Harrah, OK. She graduated from Harrah High School in 1940. She worked at Douglas Aircraft Co., in California while living with her sister & brother-in-law during World War II. She came back to Oklahoma to marry Cliffton Whitnah, Feb.7, 1943 at Capitol Hill Calvary Baptist Church. Bessie worked at Sylvania and retired from Tinker AFB as a secretary. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church of Midwest City and served as the secretary for many years. She sang in the choir and at funerals. They moved to Eastwood Baptist Church, Midwest City which was closer to their home. In 2013, Bessie & husband moved to Westbrook Gardens Senior Living Center in Purcell and became members of Story Baptist Church, Maysville, OK. Bessie enjoyed painting on wood crafts, sewing, making quilts, crocheting and loved being a homemaker and cooking for her family. She is survived by husband, Cliffton, Purcell, OK; two sons, Vernon Whitnah & wife, Jana, Calumet, OK, Wayne Whitnah & wife, Ruth Ann, Lindsay, OK; brother, Reford Young, Harrah, OK; four grandchildren, Christina Kieffer & husband, David, Richardson, TX, Lee Whitnah & wife, Barbara, Calumet, OK, Troy Whitnah & wife, Genia, Maysville, OK, Jess Whitnah, Maysville, OK; four great-grandchildren, Sam & Jason Kieffer, Richardson, TX, Trevor Whitnah, Calumet, OK, Zane Whitnah, Moore, OK and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents, five brothers, Louis, Rawlan, Russell, Lee, Jack and one sister, Lora. The family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-601l, in memory of Bessie Whitnah. Funeral services will be held Wed. Nov. 25, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah, OK. Interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
